Celebration

A friend of mine called me the other day, to tell me about his job, how things were going, in particular, a victory he had at work.  I listened, I smiled, I congratulated him, I thanked him for giving me the opportunity to celebrate life with him.

We need to be on both sides of celebration.  On the side of my friend, when good/bad things happen, reaching out to share life with someone, but we also need to be on the side I had the opportunity to be on that day, the side that doesn't just hear, but listens.  Both sides receive a blessing in that moment.

When is the last time you celebrated life?

"All I Know" is the title track of the LP I'm working on.  It's the cornerstone of my song writing and the foundational concept of what I consider 'the age of maturity' that began in college for me - the ubiquitous process of self-discovery.  While I think most people at some point consider who they are, I think a small subset of those folks find genuine answers and an even smaller set are willing to accept them. That saddens me because the beginning of self-discovery is always 'where you've been' in life. The 'where you've been' in life means considering things like if your parents are divorced, if you were hugged as a child more than ignored, poor or rich, abused or loved.  It also includes both the mischief and mistakes you've been involved with, as well as the positive.  Those are all of the items God has used to develop you, to train you, to equip you - they are the beginning of your original.

Unfortunately, the original you is not always easy to accept, to own, to embrace; but I think if we're honest with ourselves, good or bad, we all discover that whatever that past is for each of us, whatever mistakes we've made, whatever decisions we'd trade, who we are today always begins with all of the yesterdays before it and that is always individually original.  And that is all we really know.

I hope you enjoy your time on this site.  Please check out the songs, read about their story and discover my original. While here, though, my prayer is that you'll seriously consider you and ask, "What is your original?"
